SPOKES OF HOPE:
Motivation People and Change

Cancer is NOT Contagious, But HOPE can be !

Spokes of Hope consists of a network of survivors and family members acting as “Spokes”persons.

Through rides, hospital visits, speaking at schools, community events and meeting with lawmakers, Spokes of Hope motivates people to take an active role in their health, before, during and after cancer comes into their lives.

RIDES:
Spokes of Hope events take place across the country giving survivors and co-survivors opportunity to shine and show the strength and life that exists beyond diagnosis and treatment. Without opportunities like this, most people do not get to see the strong hopeful side of survivorship. This positive, energizing experience motivates people to come out and exercise and unite with others also affected by cancer.

SUPPORT GROUPS:
A large part of the mission of Spokes of Hope is to visit cancer support groups and share stories of triumph, overcoming pre-existing perceptions of how a cancer survivor is to “survive”… and put thriving into surviving.

CAMPS and CLINICS:
Motivating people to become more active and exercise more, Spokes of  Hope conducts camps and clinics  helping people perfect their cycling skills as well as unite survivors in an environment where they can share common experiences and support each other.

SPEAKING TO COMMUNITIES:
Spokes-persons provide survivor “role-models” for those not yet affected by cancer. This lets people know that they are not alone should cancer ever come into their lives as well as sharing community resources that are available should they be needed.

TRAINING WHEELS:
Spokes of Hope visits schools, addressing issues such as what cancer is, how to prevent it, and how to interact with people in their lives that are diagnosed. One of the primary messages are that people in treatment do not want pity, they want to be treated normally, that they should not be judged by how they may appear to be changed due to treatment. As well as exposing the students to healthy lifestyle choices.
